THE ATTRACTIONS

SO WHAT IS IT ALL ABOUT AND WHAT KEEPS THE CROWDS COMING IN THEIR MASSES EACH YEAR TO ENJOY THE PARADE AT SCARVA .

The Parade

The Royal Black Institution’s annual parade with all its splendour brings thousands of Knights and Bandsmen together in a spectacular turnout as they parade behind the red and black of their banners through Scarva Village to Scarvagh House.

The Battle

The Sham Fight Pageant is a symbolic re-enactment of the 1690 Battle of the Boyne between King William and King James and their armies. This traditional celebration is one of the centre pieces of the day attracting huge crowds.

The Atmosphere

The traditional celebrations held at the Thirteenth demonstration each year produces a special atmosphere that draws in tens of thousands of Ulster people as well as new and returning visitors from the United Kingdom and further a field.

THE R.B.P. AND ORANGE LODGES HAVE MET AT SCARVA IN COUNTY DOWN

SINCE 1896, MEETING FIRST IN ONE OF THE WEAVER'S COTTAGES

IN THE FAMOUS"POTSTICK ROW", AND MOVING TO SCARVA

ORANGE HALL WHEN IT WAS BUILT IN 1908

MANY PEOPLE ARE INVOLVED IN THE HUGE TASK OF ORGANISING THE EVENT IN SCARVA EACH YEAR.  SIR KNIGHTS ALFRED BULLER MEMORIAL R.B.P. 1000 AND ITS COMMITTEE WORK HARD BEHIND THE SCENES TO ENSURE ALL RUNS AS SMOOTHLY AS POSSIBLE.

Marshals & P.S.N.I.

Official marshals will be in place to assist with the parade and parking.  The PSNI will also be present to assist if required and control traffic entering the Scarva Village.

First Aiders

St. John Ambulance Service will be providing small teams of Paramedics in case of emergencies.  First Aid Points are also setup in different areas.

Public Transport

A number of Car Parks are available for vehicles as you approach Scarva. Ulster Bus also run a continuous service to and from Banbridge throughout the day.

Hot Food Bars

A combination of food bars, confectionery and refreshments will be available throughout the areas.  Local Churches will be serving tea and snacks within their tents.

The Royal 13th annual demonstration at Scarva in Co. Down, N. Ireland, is one of the Black Institution’s most colourful and well attended events.

Held traditionally on the 13th July each year Preceptories from Portadown, Newry, Tandragee, Markethill, Banbridge, Rathfriland and Lower Iveagh take part along with many national and international visitors.
